Uzbekistan’s special envoy for Afghanistan met with a delegation from the French Ministry of Armed Forces to discuss the current situation in Afghanistan and efforts to resolve the ongoing crisis in the country.

Uzbekistan media outlets reported that during this meeting, both sides discussed Afghanistan’s challenges and emphasized coordinated efforts to address issues such as border security, counterterrorism, drug trafficking, and arms smuggling. The head of the French delegation also highlighted Uzbekistan’s important role in supporting peace in Afghanistan.

The Uzbek media said: “The parties exchanged views on the challenges facing Afghanistan and stressed the importance of coordinated actions to address key issues, including border security, counterterrorism, drug trafficking, and arms smuggling.”

Uzbekistan is one of the countries that has strengthened its relations with the caretaker government of the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan since its return to power, and a few days ago, it also accepted the credentials of the Islamic Emirate’s ambassador in Tashkent.

Meanwhile, some political analysts said that Uzbekistan can play an effective role in solving Afghanistan’s current problems.

“As long as there is no representation from the caretaker government, these discussions will not yield results. Whether it’s about terrorism or drug trafficking, Afghanistan’s presence in these meetings is crucial and necessary,” said Zalmay Afghanyar, a political analyst.

“They are trying to assess the region, Afghanistan’s relations, and its security. Uzbekistan can be effective with Afghanistan in all areas,” said Sayed Akbar Sial Wardak, another political analyst.

Earlier, the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, during his visit to Tajikistan, also discussed the stability and security of Afghanistan and the region with the Speaker of the Tajik Parliament and representatives of other countries.
