A number of Uzbek investors have expressed interest in investing in Afghanistan’s construction and mining sectors during a meeting in Kabul with the Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce, Ahmadullah Zahid.
Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, stated that the deputy minister assured Uzbek businessmen that they would be provided with facilities and support for investments in various sectors in Afghanistan.
He added:”During this meeting, Uzbek investors expressed their willingness to invest in the construction and mining sectors in Afghanistan. In response, Mawlawi Ahmadullah Zahid welcomed their decision and provided detailed information on investment opportunities in these fields.”
Meanwhile, a technical team from Uzbekistan’s energy sector has also traveled to Kabul to meet with the head of the Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), emphasizing Tashkent’s commitment to supporting Afghanistan’s energy infrastructure development.
Hikmatullah Maiwandi, the spokesperson for DABS, said: “Two key topics were discussed in this meeting: the power transmission project and the establishment of a coal plant in the north, which will generate electricity from coal.”
Earlier this year, a high-ranking delegation from the Islamic Emirate, led by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, visited Uzbekistan for a two-day trip in early February. The trip was described as highly productive.
Following the visit, Mullah Baradar stated that as a result of discussions with Uzbek officials, the cost of the 500-kilovolt power transmission line project was reduced from $252 million to $222 million. Additionally, multiple meetings were held on trade, aviation, agriculture, and railway cooperation between the two countries.
