Neelum Valley, in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), witnessed a heart-wrenching tragedy as three pregnant women lost their lives during childbirth due to the unavailability of timely medical aid. This devastating incident underscores Pakistan’s decades-long neglect of PoJK, where basic infrastructure and healthcare remain alarmingly inadequate.

For 77 years, Pakistan has treated PoJK as a pawn in its political games, utterly disregarding the needs of its residents. Despite grandiose claims of development, the reality on the ground tells a different story: crumbling infrastructure, non-existent healthcare facilities, and impassable roads that cost innocent lives daily.

The absence of even basic medical care in Neelum Valley is a glaring indictment of Pakistan’s hollow promises. Expectant mothers and their families are left to fend for themselves in life-threatening situations, with no access to hospitals or emergency services. This ongoing negligence turns life into a nightmare for the people of PoJK, who remain trapped in a cycle of poverty and suffering.

Activists and human rights organizations have long called for accountability, but Pakistan continues to exploit PoJK while providing nothing in return. The international community must recognize the appalling conditions in PoJK and pressure Pakistan to address the region’s dire humanitarian needs.

Until then, the people of PoJK will continue to pay the price for Pakistan’s deliberate neglect—a tragedy that demands urgent action and justice.
