Tourist stakeholders in the Valley are hoping that the impending G20 working group conference in Srinagar would pave the way for European Union nations and the US to eliminate Jammu and Kashmir-specific travel advisories, which will provide a significant boost to the tourist sector.
A considerable number of international visitors, even those from countries with unfavourable travel advice, are visiting Kashmir and believe it is completely secure.
There are advisories in place from various countries across the globe, which unfortunately have been in place since the 1990s. There has been a great transformation as far as the overall situation in Kashmir is concerned. It’s very peaceful now and there have been certain instances where European countries have been discussing lifting these travel advisories, Syed Abid Rashid, secretary of Tourismsaid.
The stakeholders in the tourism industry believe that success of G-20 event demonstrates the region’s drive to a healthy and inclusive environment that fosters a deeper appreciation for the arts and cultural diversity.
