The Army has stated that the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) remains peaceful following the Director General Military Operations (DGsMO) understandings of February 2021. However, they continue to monitor the situation closely and are prepared to respond to any escalation along the LoC.
An Army spokesman emphasised that since the abrogation of Article 370, the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has steadily improved, despite occasional spikes in violence.
Regarding operational preparedness, the spokesman stated that the Army has maintained a high level of readiness to ensure stability and dominance along all frontiers, including the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and the LoC.
“Relentless counter-terrorist operations were also carried out while constantly reviewing emerging and future threats to national security,” he said.
The spokesman also highlighted the importance of infrastructure development in border areas as a key component of operational preparedness. “This has been given emphasis in line with the ‘Viksit Bharat Vision’ of the Government,” he added.
On the situation along the LAC, the spokesman noted that it remains stable but sensitive. “Post prolonged negotiations at diplomatic and military levels, on October 21, 2024, a broad consensus was reached to restore the ground situation based on principles of Equal and Mutual Security,” he said.
This consensus includes the disengagement and relocation of troops from friction areas such as Depsang and Demchok, followed by joint verification. “Currently, blocking positions have been removed by both sides, and joint verification has been completed. Patrolling activities have resumed in traditional patrolling areas in Depsang and Demchok,” he stated.
Regarding border infrastructure, the Army spokesman assured that the development of essential infrastructure from an operational perspective is being carried out in a comprehensive and holistic manner. “The adoption of the latest construction techniques is being ensured for timely completion and enhanced quality infrastructure. Concerted efforts are being made by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and other agencies for the construction of road infrastructure in border areas,” he explained.
The spokesman said that the prospective plan of BRO has been finalised till year 2028, wherein, 470 roads of approximately 27,000 kms will be constructed. The prospective plan of other agencies’ roads is being synchronised with the plans of BRO.
“The construction efforts are focused on development of defence related infrastructure including force preservation assets, operational logistics infrastructure, billeting of troops, establishment of forward connectivity, anti-infiltration system and development of aviation related infrastructure,” he added.
The spokesman said that in October 2024, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh e-inaugurated 75 infrastructure projects constructed by the BRO at a cost of Rs 2,236 crore and spread across 11 border States and Union Territories including 19 are in Jammu & Kashmir.
