Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, said that the US and its allies are seeking to interfere in Afghanistan’s fragile stability.

Speaking at the second Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security, Lavrov stated that the US allies are looking for excuses to resume their military presence in Central Asian countries.

The Russian Foreign Minister said: “After fleeing Afghanistan following a twenty-year occupation, the US and its allies now want to involve themselves in the fragile stability of the situation in this country and find reasons to resume their military presence in Central Asian countries.”

At the same meeting, Imangali Tasmagambetov, secretary general of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), also claimed that, despite positive changes in Afghanistan, the threat of terrorism, radical ideologies, and organized drug trafficking in the region remains undiminished.

Imangali Tasmagambetov stated: “We are also pointing to other challenges, such as competition over natural resources. In this region, water issues, in particular, could lead to inter-state conflicts.”

The Islamic Emirate has yet to comment on these statements. However, it has consistently dismissed concerns about terrorism and narcotics issues in the country, asserting that it is combating these issues seriously.

“Terrorism is an international problem. It is the responsibility of the global community to stand side by side with the Islamic Emirate in fighting it and to provide opportunities for cooperation so that terrorism can be combated more effectively,” said Edris Mohammadi Zazai, a political analyst.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Minister also highlighted the importance of maintaining constructive dialogue with Afghanistan’s current government, seeing it as beneficial to the country’s security, economic development, and national unity.
