Qatar and Indonesia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) yesterday (Sunday) to provide scholarships for Afghan students in Indonesia.

In a statement, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the purpose of this agreement is to support educational and developmental projects in Afghanistan. The agreement was signed between Lolwah Al-Khater, Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Retno Marsudi, Indonesia’s Foreign Minister.

The statement reads: “The MoU aims to establish a framework of cooperation to help build the human capacity of the Afghan people by providing scholarships to a number of Afghan students to study in the Republic of Indonesia.”

Ruhullah Ahmadi, one of the students, said: “We welcome Indonesia’s scholarship offer for Afghan students. Every scholarship that comes to Afghanistan strengthens our students.”

Masoud Ahmad, another student, said: “Scholarships from any country that come to our homeland are beneficial, and students can study and help build our country.”

Meanwhile, several experts emphasized the importance of offering scholarships to Afghan students and stressed that other countries should also focus on providing scholarships to Afghan students.

Mohammad Aslam Danishmal, a university professor, told TOLOnews: “The scholarships announced by Indonesia for Afghan students are beneficial and will enhance the capacity of the youth.”

Idris Mohammadi Zazai, another university professor, added: “Other countries should also offer scholarships to raise the level of education for Afghan students.”

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, quoting Indonesia’s Foreign Minister, said that the cooperation between the two countries in offering scholarships to Afghan students reflects their shared commitment to building a brighter future for Afghanistan.
