Demonstrations across Balochistan continued on Sunday against the arrest of Dr. Mahrang Baloch and members of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), as political parties and civil society raised their voices in protest.
In Kalat, the Balochistan National Party (BNP) organized a rally which later turned into a protest gathering. BNP leaders strongly condemned the arrest of Dr. Mahrang Baloch along with other BYC leaders and activists.
Speakers at the protest said that enforced disappearances in Balochistan previously targeted men, but now the state has begun arresting women under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) laws.
They claimed that Baloch women had become a strong voice against state violence, and in an attempt to suppress that voice, security institutions have started detaining them.
The BNP leaders demanded the immediate release of Dr. Mahrang Baloch and other detained BYC members.
It is worth noting that the BNP had earlier staged a 20-day sit-in protest at Lakpass in Mastung district, demanding the release of BYC’s women leaders and activists.
