Tensions erupted into violence in Karachi’s Golimar area on Sunday, as clashes between two religious groups resulted in one death and several injuries. The Sindh Rangers were deployed to the scene to restore order and ensure safety. The Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Police, Karachi, confirmed that a heavy police presence is in place, with ongoing monitoring to prevent further escalation.
To ensure public safety and prevent further disturbances, the Sindh Home Department has decided to suspend cellular services in Karachi and several other districts, including Hyderabad, Dadu, Thatta, Sajawal, Khairpur, and Larkana. However, services will remain operational in Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Mirpurkhas. This measure aims to secure the Chehlum procession and gatherings honoring Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) across the province.
The violent incident occurred when armed men opened fire on an Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) rally, resulting in the death of two individuals and injuries to nine others. The attackers also threw stones at the rally attendees, causing confusion and leading to clashes between the two local religious organizations involved. Some outraged members set vehicles on fire and blocked both lanes of the main artery leading to Nazimabad from Lasbella.
Notably, the attacks have escalated after Pak sponsored banned terrorist outfit Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) broke a fragile ceasefire agreement with the Pak Army in 2022 and vowed to target security forces.
