In a recent report, The Diplomat magazine predicted that economic relations between Kabul and Tashkent will reach their highest level in 2025.

The report discusses security, economic, and trade issues between the two countries and notes that, with Afghanistan’s population of 41 million, it represents a promising market for Uzbek goods.

The Diplomat said that Tashkent has shifted from a security-focused foreign policy to a pragmatic one centered on economic engagement with Kabul.

Mohammad Nabi Afghan, an economic affairs expert, stated: “A very favorable situation prevails in Afghanistan, and the conditions are ripe for progress. These countries can benefit from Afghanistan’s current status, and Afghans themselves can also gain, playing their part well so both sides profit.”

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Economy says Afghanistan’s trade, economic, and transit relations with Uzbekistan are growing based on the two countries’ mutual interests, and the Islamic Emirate is also working to expand these ties.

Abdul Latif Nazari, deputy minister of economy, said: “The Islamic Emirate’s relations with Central Asian countries, including Uzbekistan, are progressing. There are extensive economic, trade, and transit exchanges between us and Uzbekistan, which benefit both nations. We are striving to further strengthen these economic relations day by day.”

Some economic analysts believe that Afghanistan should leverage Uzbekistan’s capacities to boost exports, attract investment, and expand its economic influence into Central Asian countries.

Abdul Nasir Rashtia, an economic affairs expert, said: “Uzbekistan’s interest in Afghanistan’s mining sector is increasing, which offers Afghanistan an opportunity to fully exploit these openings. Given its technological capabilities, Uzbekistan can provide significant assistance to various sectors in Afghanistan.”

The report concludes that, despite the opportunities, Tashkent will face challenges in maintaining and strengthening its economic position in Afghanistan due to increasing competition.
