The Islamic Emirate’s Embassy in Islamabad has denied claims of Afghan refugees participating in anti-government protests in Pakistan.
The embassy expressed concern over recent statements by Pakistani officials, emphasizing that Afghan citizens have no intention of getting involved in the country’s political matters.
Sardar Ahmad Shakib, the chargé d’affaires of the embassy, stated that Afghan refugees have faced restrictions since the establishment of Pakistan’s interim government. Consequently, they are not interested in participating in Pakistan’s political activities.
He said, “Afghan refugees living here never interfere in Pakistan’s political affairs and are focused on their own lives. If any individual is proven guilty, it is considered a personal crime, and there are legal channels to address it.”
Sardar Ahmad Shakib further noted that statements by Pakistani officials on this matter exacerbate restrictions on refugees and deepen mistrust between the two countries. He urged the Pakistani government to refrain from fostering a environment of distrust that could lead to harassment and forced deportation of Afghan refugees.
The chargé d’affaires added, “Once again, we call on Pakistani officials to avoid creating such an environment. It is not beneficial for Pakistan and creates difficulties for the refugees, further increasing mistrust between the two nations.”
Meanwhile, some Afghan refugees in Pakistan have reported an increase in restrictions.
Mirwais Khaverin, a journalist in Pakistan, said: “Afghan refugees are always harassed by police, even when their documents are complete and in perfect order.”
Previously, Pakistani media reported the arrest of several Afghan citizens linked to participation in anti-government protests organized by supporters of Imran Khan.
