The head of the political office of the Islamic Emirate in Qatar has criticized the absence of an invitation to the interim government’s representative to the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, calling it an injustice against the interim government.
Representatives from more than 190 countries are expected to participate in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly tomorrow (September 22).
The situation in Afghanistan and several other countries, including Palestine, will be the focal points of discussion at this session.
Suhail Shaheen, head of the Islamic Emirate’s political office in Qatar, told TOLOnews: “For the past three years, Afghanistan’s seat has not been handed over to the Islamic Emirate. This is a great injustice and betrayal against the people of Afghanistan, which should not continue.”
At the same time, Human Rights Watch has urged world leaders to prioritize the situation in Afghanistan in their main agenda. The human rights organization emphasized that the United Nations and world leaders must put an end to the global neglect of the situation in Afghanistan.
In a statement, Human Rights Watch said: “With respect to Myanmar, leaders should press for international action in the face of Security Council paralysis in addressing junta abuses. They should end the global neglect of the situation in Afghanistan, where the Taliban have deprived women and girls of nearly all their rights three years after regaining power.”
Earlier, the United States Institute of Peace had stated that due to the Islamic Emirate not being recognized by the member countries of the United Nations, the representative of Afghanistan’s interim government would not be present at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
Sayed Akbar Sial Wardak, a political analyst, told TOLOnews: “This will cause the gap between Afghanistan and the international community to widen because Afghanistan’s regional opponents will take advantage of this and will seek to widen this gap further.”
Idris Mohammadi Zazi, another political analyst, said: “It is essential that the Islamic Emirate be allowed a seat at the United Nations so that coordination between the Islamic Emirate and the international community can be established.”
This comes as the Islamic Emirate had previously stated at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly that it expects the sanctions imposed on Afghanistan to be lifted.
