Last Thursday’s armed attack on civilians in the area between the provinces of Daikundi and Ghor has sparked global reactions.
Stéphane Dujarric, the Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, stated that António Guterres, while condemning this attack, has emphasized the call for the protection of civilians.
Dujarric added: “I want to tell you that the Secretary-General condemns yesterday’s heinous attack on members of the Shia Hazara community that took place in the central region of Afghanistan. Mr. [António] Guterres conveys his condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a quick recovery to those who were injured. The Secretary-General reiterates his call to protect civilians at all times.”
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), the US Charge d’Affaires for Afghanistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, and the Embassy of Japan in Kabul have also expressed their condolences to the families of the victims of this tragedy and have called for an end to such attacks.
UNAMA and Karen Decker, the US Charge d’Affaires for Afghanistan, have called for an investigation and accountability regarding this attack.
A statement from UNAMA reads: “UNAMA condemns yesterday’s attack in central Afghanistan which resulted in numerous deaths and injuries to members of the Shia community. We express our condolences to the families of those killed and call for an investigation to hold those responsible to account.”
The Japanese Embassy in Kabul wrote about this attack: “We condemn the heinous terrorist attack in the area between Daykundi and Ghor provinces yesterday, which resulted in multiple people killed and wounded. We express condolences to the victims and the families of those who have been affected. We reiterate these kind of attacks of terror must cease immediately.”
Sayed Akbar Sial Wardak, a political analyst, told TOLOnews: “As an Islamic state, the responsibility lies with the military sector. They must take steps to prevent such incidents so that, God forbid, no such attack occurs again in Afghanistan.”
Fazl Rahman Oria, another political analyst, said: “The solution to preventing such mass killings is to create a regional consensus against the conspiracies organized by Pakistan and the United States.”
In the armed attack in the area between Daikundi and Ghor, at least fourteen people were killed and six others were injured. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack.
