An international conference titled “Afghanistan: regional connectivity, security and development” was held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, with representatives from 20 countries participating.
Azerbaijani media reported that the chief of Azerbaijan’s State Security Service identified the main objective of the conference as fostering international coordination to prevent actions by disruptive forces and terrorist groups aiming to destabilize Afghanistan.
The media report also stated: “The SSS Chief touched upon the Azerbaijan-Afghanistan relations, which have stood the test of many years and are built on mutual trust, as well as the deep historical and cultural ties between the peoples, noting that Azerbaijan has always supported international initiatives to ensure internal political stability and security in Afghanistan and has never spared its efforts in this direction.”
Political analyst Janat Faheem Chakari commented: “If neighboring and regional countries truly wish to engage with Afghanistan sincerely, there is no doubt that Afghanistan can be reintegrated into the UN General Assembly in a short time.”
At the conference, some participating countries stressed that this event could pave the way for practical steps toward sustainable peace in Afghanistan.
They emphasized the importance of international support for stability in Afghanistan.
Political analyst Abdulsadeq Hamidzoy said: “In any conference where no representative from the ruling system is present, who is there to raise the issues, and who will provide a platform to resolve them? This shows that such efforts are aimed at advancing their own political agendas.”
Meanwhile, the Islamic Emirate also issued a statement expressing its stance on the conference.
Earlier, Sergey Shoigu, Secretary of Russia’s National Security Council, announced that the Moscow Security Conference would be held from May 27 to 29, stating that the situation in Afghanistan is not only a regional matter but also part of Russia’s global strategic interests.
