During the Fifth China-Central Asia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, China’s Foreign Minister announced that Beijing and Central Asian nations have agreed to assist Afghanistan in achieving peace, stability, and reconstruction.
According to China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, Wang Yi stated that China and the Central Asian countries have agreed to collaborate in combating terrorism, separatism, extremism, and foreign interference in the region’s internal affairs.
The spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry stated: “We should actively implement the Global Security Initiative, jointly combat terrorist, extremist, and separatist forces, oppose external interference in the internal affairs of Central Asian nations, resist attempts to create chaos in the region, and help Afghanistan achieve peace and reconstruction at the earliest opportunity.”
These remarks come alongside previous statements from China’s special envoy for Afghanistan, who highlighted that, through China’s efforts, a consensus has emerged for the international community to engage with Afghanistan’s interim government.
Political analyst Janat Faheem Chakari remarked: “The five Central Asian countries remain under Russia’s influence. Without directives from Russia, they are unlikely to act independently.”
Another analyst, Idris Mohammadi Zazi, said: “China is working to initiate the recognition process for the Islamic Emirate to resolve the ambiguities surrounding Afghanistan that concern the international community.”
China remains among the first nations to officially accept the ambassador of Afghanistan’s interim government in Beijing. Furthermore, China’s ambassador to Kabul has previously expressed China’s readiness to enhance political and economic cooperation with Afghanistan’s interim government.
