The leaders of BRICS member countries, referring to Afghanistan in a joint declaration, emphasized their support for an independent, united and peaceful state free from terrorism, war and drugs.
A section of this declaration also stressed the need for providing humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan and lifting the ban on girls’ education.
The declaration highlighted the important role of regional and neighboring countries in resolving Afghanistan’s issues.
The declaration stated: “We call on Afghanistan authorities to reverse the effective ban on girl’s secondary and higher education. We emphasize the primary and effective role of regional platforms and neighboring countries of Afghanistan and welcome the efforts of such regional platforms and initiatives to facilitate the Afghan settlement.”
The Islamic Emirate has not commented on the BRICS leaders’ demand to lift the ban on girls’ education but asserts that stability and security in Afghanistan benefit all countries in the region.
Hamdullah Fitrat, Deputy Spokesman of the Islamic Emirate, said that the Islamic Emirate views positively the fact that Afghanistan was a focal point in the BRICS discussions.
The Deputy Spokesman of the Islamic Emirate added: “Afghanistan is at the center of the BRICS agenda and discussions. The Islamic Emirate draws the attention of regional countries to the fact that Afghanistan’s economy, peace, and stability are of special importance to the region and benefit everyone.”
“The fact that all of them have unitedly called on the Islamic Emirate to provide education and work opportunities for girls is not only the demand of BRICS but also the demand of Afghans and other countries. The Islamic Emirate should allow girls to pursue education in accordance with Islamic law and Afghan customs,” Moeen Gul Samkanai, a political analyst, told TOLOnews.
The 16th BRICS summit was held in Kazan, Russia.
