International media, quoting Austria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, have reported that the country plans to deport Afghan refugees with criminal records back to their homeland.
According to reports, Austria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that it is in talks with Germany to implement this process.
“The minister of the interior has been in negotiations with the German minister of the interior for a very long time about how we can solve the problem of deportations to Afghanistan because Austria is also deporting Afghans and Syrians right now,” said Chancellor Karl Nehammer.
At the same time, some migrant rights activists have told TOLOnews that before deporting these migrants, their cases should be addressed.
Mohammad Khan Mohammadzai, a migrant rights activist, told TOLOnews: “The deportation of Afghan migrants from some European countries, including Germany, where some of our compatriots have been recognized as criminals, must be addressed before they are deported.”
The Islamic Emirate has not yet commented on this matter.
This comes as Germany on Friday deported 28 Afghan citizens accused of various crimes.
