Asia’s largest tulip garden, situated in the lap of the Zabarwan mountain range that overlooks the famed Dal Lake in Srinagar, is now open to visitors.
Home to more than 1.5 million tulips in 60 varieties and colours, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden has become one of the major tourist attractions in Srinagar that manages to attract tourists from across the globe. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary A.K. Mehta inaugurated the garden and informed that the region has recorded the highest ever footfall of tourists during the past six months.

The picturesque garden, located on the foothills of the Zabarwan mountain range and banks of majestic Dal Lake – has multiple varieties of red, yellow and pink early blooming and late blooming tulip bulbs. Besides, other flowers like hyacinths, daffodils, narcissus, muscaria and Iris adorn the garden, while a Japanese ornamental cherry theme garden is also a part of the aesthetic appeal. The garden also has ornamental trees like apricots and almonds, which coincide with tulip blooming.

Mehta further added that the figure is the highest ever so far when compared to any season whether during COVID or before, and that they are expecting further increase in the tourist footfall in the coming months.
Reports have it that a huge number of locals and tourists visited the garden on the first day, where a series of cultural and musical events were organised to amuse the visitors.
The garden has been built in a terraced fashion on sloping ground and, apart from tulips, other species of flowers that are grown here are daffodils, hyacinths, and ranunculus.
Do note that the garden is not accessible throughout the year. During this almost one-month show, the tulips remain in full bloom till April.
