On August 12, International Youth Day, several young people in the country expressed concerns over what they describe as a lack of job opportunities in Afghanistan. They told TOLOnews that due to the absence of employment, many youth are compelled to migrate.

Sahel, 34, who has studied law and political science, spoke about unemployment: “Provide job opportunities for young people so they don’t migrate to Iran and other countries and face difficulties.”

These youth expect the Islamic Emirate to create effective programs that will provide them with job opportunities.

“It is necessary for the Islamic Emirate to implement policies that attract private investment in the country, reduce unemployment, and employ the youth,” said Lutfullah Stanekzai, a resident of Kabul.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs said that the caretaker government has good programs in place to create jobs and educational opportunities for the youth.

Samiullah Ebrahimi, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, told TOLOnews: “The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Islamic Emirate has various plans to create job opportunities for the youth, and through the implementation of these programs, employment will be generated for the youth.”

This year’s International Youth Day was celebrated with the theme “Digital Solutions for Youth Development.”

The United Nations designated August 12 as International Youth Day in 1999.

In a message on the occasion of International Youth Day, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said that on this important day, all should come together to remove obstacles and strive for a more just, equal, and inclusive world for all people.
