In a tense standoff at Turbat University, members of the Baloch Students Action Committee (BSAC) were initially denied permission to set up their “Kitab Karwan” book stall by university administration, with security personnel blocking the gates. However, after considerable resistance and negotiations, the students were finally allowed to proceed with the event.
The BSAC spokesperson stated that security personnel attempted to prevent the book stall from being set up by closing the university gates, but after a prolonged discussion, the students were granted permission to carry out their initiative. The incident highlights the authorities’ reaction to the display of literature and free expression.
BSAC’s “Kitab Karwan” project, which aims to promote reading and education among Baloch students, began earlier this year and has faced significant pushback. In several regions of Balochistan, including Gwadar, students were detained along with their books, and FIRs were filed against them for organizing similar stalls. Despite these challenges, BSAC has continued its efforts to bring educational resources to the students of Balochistan.
