Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, the acting minister of refugees and repatriation, has once again called on neighboring countries to immediately halt the forced deportation and mistreatment of Afghan refugees.
In separate meetings with the Japanese ambassador and the deputy special representative of the UN Secretary-General for Afghanistan, the acting minister also urged humanitarian organizations to provide assistance to Afghan refugees.
Abdul Matloub Haqqani, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation, spoke about these meetings, stating: “Foreign countries should stop the forced deportation of Afghan refugees and allow them to voluntarily return to their homeland based on international laws.”
During the meeting, the Japanese ambassador expressed that Tokyo wants Afghanistan to achieve stability and emphasized the importance of cooperation with the Islamic Emirate in this regard.
Separately, Takayushi Kormaya the Japanese Ambassador to Kabul, met with the acting minister of economy and assured the continuation of Japan’s development and humanitarian aid to Afghanistan in 2025.
Meanwhile, several Afghan refugees in neighboring countries have complained about the challenges they face.
Jamal Muslim, an Afghan refugee in Turkey, told”Refugees are being forced to leave their homes and relocate to other areas. Afghan refugees in Turkey are struggling with economic, linguistic, and employment difficulties.”
The mistreatment and detention of Afghan refugees by neighboring countries, especially Pakistan, is not a new issue; similar incidents have repeatedly occurred in the past.
However, what steps should the Islamic Emirate take in response to the actions of neighboring countries?
Jummah Khan Poya, a migration rights expert, told “The current authorities in Afghanistan must take immediate action and engage in discussions with officials from international organizations and neighboring governments, including Iran and Pakistan.”
Previously, officials of the Islamic Emirate had also urged neighboring countries not to forcibly deport Afghan refugees.
