The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs has announced that over 65,000 work permits were issued during the first eight months of the current solar year.

According to the ministry’s spokesperson, around 2,500 of these permits were issued to foreign nationals.

“In the first eight months of 1403 (solar year), more than 65,000 work permits were distributed to citizens of the country and foreign nationals. Work permits have also been issued to women in sectors where their services are required,” said Samiullah Ebrahimi, the spokesperson for the ministry.

However, some residents of the capital are calling on the Islamic Emirate and the private sector to create more job opportunities.

Ahmad Shoaib, a Kabul resident and graduate of Kabul University’s Faculty of Journalism, expressed his frustration at being unable to find work in his field and apply his skills.

He called on the Islamic Emirate to provide job opportunities for the youth so they can contribute to society and avoid working outside their field of study.

Ahmad Shoaib said,  “I had hoped to work in my field of study, but no opportunities have been provided. Wherever I go, they ask, ‘Where is your work experience?’ But no one considers that if young people are not given jobs, where will they gain experience?”

Economic experts emphasize that reducing poverty and unemployment requires a focus on large-scale economic projects and global engagement with the Islamic Emirate.

“Investment in production sectors and the establishment of factories can revitalize Afghanistan’s economy. This will increase the GDP and improve household economic conditions, ultimately reducing poverty,” said Abdul Ghaffar Nezami, an economic analyst.

“The government must create an environment conducive to attracting more investments. Until jobs are created, the problem of unemployment will not be resolved,” said Abdul Naseer Rashtia, another economic expert.

Officials of the Islamic Emirate have also stated that significant efforts are being made to reduce unemployment through various initiatives, including mining, water resource management, urban development, road construction, and investment attraction.
