Nuruddin Azizi, the acting Minister of Industry and Commerce, met with the Turkish Minister of Trade and the Deputy Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan on the sidelines of the Istanbul Halal Expo.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Azizi discussed establishing a technical and communication committee with the Turkish Minister of Trade to identify opportunities and address challenges and issues.
Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, said: “Honorable Mammadov, the First Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, invited the Afghan government delegation and private sector representatives to participate in an upcoming exhibition of their country’s products and goods.”
The acting minister also discussed the sustainable use of the Rah e Lajward (Lapis Lazuli) corridor with the Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Economy. The Deputy Minister invited the Islamic Emirate and Afghanistan’s private sector to participate in the upcoming exhibition showcasing Azerbaijani products and goods.
Khanjan Alokozai, a member of the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said: “Our relations with Turkey are improving day by day, and so is our trade.”
Some traders emphasized the challenges in trade with Turkey, noting that these meetings should focus on resolving them.
Abdul Nasir Rashtia, an economic affairs expert, said: “Such meetings pave the way for building strategic economic relations with neighboring and regional countries. The discussions at this exhibition focused on the Lapis Lazuli corridor, which connects Afghanistan to Europe.”
The Istanbul Halal Expo was inaugurated on Wednesday in Turkey. During his remarks, the acting minister emphasized the creation of new opportunities for economic and trade cooperation between Afghanistan, Turkey, and the region.
