In the past two months, nearly 100 bodies of Afghan migrants have been transferred from Iran to Nimroz province.
According to officials in this province, natural deaths, shootings by Iranian border guards, and traffic incidents are among the causes of death for these Afghan migrants in Iran.
Sayed Sulaiman Agha Baheer, the deputy governor of Nimroz, stated: “In the past two months, nearly 100 corpses of Afghan migrants have been transferred from Iran to this province. Most of them lost their lives due to natural causes, shootings by Iranian border guards, and traffic accidents.”
Meanwhile, relatives of some of these deceased migrants have called on the caretaker government to prevent the mistreatment and shootings of Afghan migrants by Iranian police.
“Ahmad embarked on an illegal journey to Iran in search of a livelihood but lost his life due to gunfire from Iranian border forces. I urge the caretaker government to engage with Iranian officials to stop the recurrence of such incidents,” said Sayed Agha, a relative of one of the victims.
“I urge the government to stop the oppression by Iran. Every Afghan who goes there faces gunfire. What is our crime as Afghans? Why does no one investigate their deaths?” said Baheer, another relative.
According to statistics from local Nimroz officials, at least five bodies are transferred daily from Iran to this province.
This comes as the expulsion of Afghan migrants by the Iranian government intensifies. At the same time, hundreds of Afghan citizens continue to travel to Iran daily through illegal routes due to unemployment and poverty in search of work.
