Hassan Kazemi Qomi, Iran’s ambassador and special representative for Afghanistan, has discussed the upcoming Doha meeting and the role of the international community in resolving Afghanistan’s issues with the ambassadors of Japan and Uzbekistan in Kabul.
The Iranian embassy in Kabul said in a statement that Hassan Kazemi Qomi, in a separate meeting with Georgette Gagnon, the Deputy Special Representative (Political) for Afghanistan in UNAMA, discussed issues related to narcotics and the private sector. He assured Iran’s support for constructive initiatives for Afghanistan.
Regarding the meeting with Uzbekistan’s ambassador, the Iranian embassy in Kabul said: “Today, Kazemi Qomi met with Oybek Usmanov, the newly appointed ambassador of Uzbekistan to Kabul. While welcoming and wishing him a successful mission, they discussed developments in Afghanistan and a regional initiative to address the problems of the Afghan people.”
In another statement, the embassy said: “In a meeting between Georgette Gagnon, the Deputy Special Representative (Political) for Afghanistan in the UNAMA, and Kazemi Qomi, the topics of narcotics and the role of the private sector in Afghanistan were discussed. Kazemi Qomi stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran supports any constructive initiative by the international community for Afghanistan.”
“The meetings held by Iran’s special envoy for Afghanistan with representatives of different countries show that Iran sees more of its interests in Afghanistan, and the security and stability of Afghanistan are beneficial for Iran,” Belal Omar, a political analyst, told TOLOnews.
These discussions between Iran’s envoy and other countries are taking place while, earlier, the spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate had mentioned that implementing the commitments made during the third Doha meeting requires holding subsequent meetings of special envoys for Afghanistan.
