Donald Trump, who has been elected as the 47th President of the United States, made remarks concerning Afghanistan during his election campaigns alongside global issues.
Among the topics Trump frequently criticized were the US military withdrawal from Afghanistan, the abandonment of Bagram Air Base, and the leaving behind of American weaponry in the country.
During one of his campaign events, he mentioned that if he won the election, he would reclaim Bagram Air Base.
Aziz Maarej, an international relations expert, told TOLOnews about the likelihood of fulfilling these campaign promises: “In American elections, candidates usually make promises but don’t follow through. Donald Trump also made promises during his first term that he couldn’t keep, as US foreign policy is pre-planned and structured.”
“It’s possible that he will redefine a series of new priorities. If previous priorities related to Afghanistan centered on peace or ongoing dialogue, these might shift in a way that satisfies public opinion globally and leads the Islamic Emirate toward constructive results, enabling better engagement with the world and lifting sanctions,” said Sayed Zia Hussaini, another international relations expert.
“It remains to be seen whether Trump will continue his previous policies or adjust them based on current realities, as the world is transitioning from a unipolar to possibly bipolar or even multipolar dynamics,” said Sayed Ebadullah Sadiq, another political analyst.
In his victory speech for the current US election, Donald Trump also stated that during his administration, he would lead America into a new golden age.
