Local officials in Nimroz say that over the past two months, more than 400 children have been returned to Afghanistan from Iran.
Many of these children have been reunited with their families with the help of officials and aid organizations.
Mohammad Qasim Mobasher, head of Labor and Social Affairs in Nimroz, said: “In the past two months, 400 orphaned children have returned from Iran through the Rah-e-Abrishon route, and with the assistance of some partner organizations, we have transported each of them to their respective provinces.”
These children say they went to Iran due to unemployment and poverty.
Nematullah, a 14-year-old resident of Nangarhar province, was recently deported from Iran to Nimroz province.
He is the sole breadwinner of his family and said he went to Iran illegally because of poverty and hardship.
Nematullah is currently in Nimroz and has no money to return home. He is asking the authorities to assist him with his return.
Nematullah, a deported child from Iran, said: “I went to Iran for work because there are many problems at home, and I am the only one who can provide for my family. Now I ask the government to help me get back home and assist me.”
Khalil, another child deported from Iran, said: “I went to Iran for work, but we were beaten a lot.”
In recent days, the forced deportation of Afghan migrants from Iran has increased.
According to officials, thousands of Afghan migrants are deported from Iran daily.
