The Islamic Emirate has appointed a delegation to investigate the issue of the shooting of Afghan migrants at the border with Iran.

Hamdullah Fitrat, the deputy spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, has said that this delegation, led by the Deputy Minister of Interior for Security, includes representatives from the Ministries of Defense, Foreign Affairs, Borders and Tribal Affairs, and the Intelligence Directorate, to investigate the incident and report the findings to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The deputy spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate said: “They will conduct investigations and share the results with the Prime Minister’s Office to receive further instructions. The commission has been working continuously since yesterday, last night, and today on this issue and is striving to share preliminary information with the citizens as soon as possible.”

Earlier, Iran’s ambassador and special representative for Afghanistan stated that the shooting of Afghan migrants at the Iranian border is not true and that it is the legitimate right of countries to deal legally with the entry of illegal citizens. Hassan Kazemi Qomi said that border forces of every country are tasked with preventing the entry of illegal citizens.

Hassan Kazemi Qomi said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to return unauthorized refugees and deal legally with their illegal entry at all border points; however, in this matter, it operates completely lawfully, responsibly, and based on its longstanding policy of good neighborliness, Islamic compassion, and commitment to the provisions of international treaties.”

Zalmay Khalilzad, former US special representative for the reconciliation of Afghanistan, has said that before any judgment, the outcome of credible investigations should be awaited, and if these reports are true, the incident would have been “terrible.”

Zalmay Khalilzad wrote on X: “There are reports of a violent incident in which some 250 Afghans were allegedly  killed or injured by Iranian border forces. Before making any judgment, we must wait for the results of an authoritative investigation. If the reports turn out to be true, this would be terrible and require consequences. For now, Iran is denying that this happened.”

“If this is not investigated, it can bring instability in the future, both economically and politically. Additionally, the previous relations between Iran and Afghanistan could be affected and may deteriorate,” Shams Rahman Ahmadi, a political analyst, told TOLOnews.

This comes as reports were circulated Wednesday about the shooting of dozens of Afghan migrants in the Kalagan Saravan area of Sistan and Baluchestan.
