In Shah Latif Town area of Karachi, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), and intelligence agencies killed one terrorist and arrested five others.
According to details, the exchange of fire between the terrorists and CTD personnel lasted about an hour at 4 am. The armoured vehicle was damaged after terrorists attacked it with a grenade. The body of the slain terrorist was shifted to the morgue. CTD In-charge Raja Umar Khattab said that the terrorists were stationed in a building in Shah Latif Town Sector A/21.
The action was taken against the terrorists on a tip-off. He said that the terrorists had parked the rickshaw in front of the gate of the building, which had explosives in its hidden compartments and the terrorists were fully prepared for the operation.
According to the Bomb Disposal Squad, four suicide jackets, 15 grenades, four Kalashnikovs, hundreds of bullets, and two rockets were also recovered from the terrorists’ possession. The explosives recovered while clearing the building were defused.
Meanwhile, in a press conference with IG Sindh Mushtaq Mehr and DIG CTD Omar Shahid, Information Minister Nasir Shah said that the arrested terrorists have been identified as Zahidullah alias Sulaiman, Bismillah alias Haji Lala, Muhammad Qasim alias Haji Siddique, Inamullah alias Bilal and Gul Muhammad while the dead terrorist has been identified as Lal Muhammad alias Mahmood.
This group was run from Afghanistan with links to “R&AW”. They were fully prepared to attack the Sindh Assembly. The accused had to carry out a suicide bombing from the rickshaw at the gate of the Sindh Assembly. The suicide bombers had to enter the gate after the blast.
They were carrying Kalashnikovs for the purpose, Nasir Hussain Shah added, saying that important evidence and maps had been recovered from the terrorist group. DIG CTD Omar Shahid Hamid said that the names of the terrorists have come to light and an investigation is underway to find out the organization to which they belong.
