The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has criticized the exclusion of the interim government’s representative from the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, calling the decision an injustice to the Afghan people. The ministry also highlighted the need to hand over Afghanistan’s seat at the UN to the interim government of Afghanistan.

Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, the Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate, said: “Our position regarding Afghanistan’s seat at the UN, which is not being given to the representatives of the Afghan people, is that this [denial] is an injustice and a violation of the rights of Afghans. If the UN hands over this seat to the true representatives of Afghanistan, they can responsibly carry out their work and defend the rights of Afghans.”

The situation in Afghanistan and several other countries is said to be among the topics of discussion at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly. The session is set to begin on September 23, and is scheduled to last for seven days.

Meanwhile, the acting representative of Afghanistan at the United Nations has said that he will participate in all sessions of the 79th round of the UN General Assembly on behalf of Afghanistan.

Naseer Ahmad Faiq, charge d’affaires of the permanent mission of Afghanistan to the United Nations, said: “The 79th session of the General Assembly is scheduled to be held from September 23 to 30, and the Permanent Mission of Afghanistan will attend all sessions.”

Representatives from over 190 countries around the world will participate in the UN General Assembly session.

“There are many issues, including the topic of Afghan refugees and the reconstruction of Afghanistan. They should have given this opportunity to the Afghans so that the representatives of the Afghan people could be present there,” Moeen Gul Samkanai, a political analyst, told TOLOnews.

“Whenever the true representatives of Afghanistan, the Islamic Emirate, or neutral individuals are invited and participate in such sessions, the voice of the Afghan people will be heard, and their voice will be conveyed to the people of Afghanistan,” said Salim Paigir, another political analyst.

Earlier, the United States Institute of Peace stated that due to the lack of recognition of the Islamic Emirate by the member countries of the United Nations, the interim government’s representative would not be present at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
