Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special envoy for Afghanistan, stated that if the Islamic Emirate is recognized, Moscow will support Afghanistan’s membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The TASS news agency, quoting Kabulov, reported that if the current government of Afghanistan is recognized, this support from Moscow will be effective.

According to TASS report “Moscow will support Afghanistan’s accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) if the Taliban movement, currently outlawed in Russia, is recognized, Zamir Kabulov, Russian special presidential envoy for Afghanistan and director of the Foreign Ministry’s Second Asia Department, said at a briefing.”

“I think we will,” he said in response to a question. “However, it’s not only about recognition,” Kabulov added.

The Islamic Emirate, praising this move by Russia, stated that they expect regional countries to expand political and economic relations with the interim government.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, said, “These are positive steps being taken, and the only solution to the issues between Afghanistan and regional countries is that expanding economic and diplomatic relations will benefit both sides.”

Zamir Kabulov also added that since the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is an economic organization, Afghanistan must first organize its economy so that other members of the organization see Afghanistan’s membership as logical.

“Afghanistan should also put its economy in some kind of order for other SCO members to view its accession as reasonable,” Kabulov noted.

Masood, an economic expert, said, “The Afghan government can take actions among the eastern and western powers for our national interests and define the interests of the East and West based on our national interests. I think this is beneficial for us.”

China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, India, and Pakistan are members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Afghanistan and four other countries are invited as observers in this organization.
