The special envoy of Qatar and the European Union for Afghanistan discussed development in Afghanistan and the joint international efforts to achieve peace and stability in the country.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement said: “Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Faisal bin Abdullah Al Hanzab, met with HE European Union’s Special Envoy to Afghanistan Tomas Niklasson. The meeting discussed developments in Afghanistan and the joint international efforts to achieve its peace and stability.”
Meanwhile, Mohamed Abushahab, Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations, in a meeting with Rina Amiri, the US special envoy for Afghan human rights and women, discussed the third Doha meeting on Afghanistan, which is scheduled to be held next month.
The United Arab Emirates’ mission to the UN said: “A productive meeting with Ms. Rina Amiri, the United States Special Envoy for Women, Girls, and Human Rights in Afghanistan. The discussion with Rina Amiri focused on the upcoming third Doha meeting of Special Envoys on Afghanistan, scheduled to be held next month. We also discussed shared concerns about the situation of women and girls in the country, and the importance of ensuring their access to education.”
“In nearly three years, experience has shown that no practical work has ever been done on the rights of the people of Afghanistan, especially the rights of Afghan women and girls, only paper activities and meetings,” said Lamia Shirzai, a women’s rights activist.
“These meetings can be good preparation for the Doha meeting,” said Javid Momand, a political analyst.
“Afghanistan has come out of a situation, that situation was war and occupation of the country, to avoid political isolation, we must interact with the countries of the world and wherever they talk about us, we should go,” said Sayed Abadullah Sadiq, a political analyst.
Although the Islamic Emirate has not recently commented on these meetings, the spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate previously said that meetings and discussions about the situation in Afghanistan without consulting the interim government will be fruitless.
