The Jammu Kashmir Police and Indian Army morning seized a box containing arms, ammunition, and explosives along the Line of Control near Jammu and Kashmir’s Akhnoor.
According to the police, the box appeared to have been dropped by a drone in the Pallanwala sector from the Pakistan side. The box contained one pistol, two magazines and 38 rounds, besides nine grenades, they added.
The searches were launched soon after a drone from the Pakistan side was spotted over the area, said the police, adding that an FIR has been registered at Khour police station.
Meanwhile, a gun battle between security forces and militants in Rajouri district’s Kalakote area continued for the second day. Sources said the security forces have cordoned the area and are slowly trying to narrow down on the militants from various directions.
Four Army men, including two captains and a JCO, were killed, and a Major was injured in the intense firefight on Wednesday.
The militants, believed to be five to six in number, are suspected to be foreigners, sources said, adding that the police and security forces were already carrying out combing and search operations in the area for the past several days following an intelligence tip-off.
A contact was established when militants opened fire on search parties on Wednesday morning.
