Union Minister of Steel Jyotiraditya Scindia has said that India’s steel industry has achieved remarkable growth in the last nine years and has now become the second-largest producer of crude steel in the world surpassing Japan in 2018.

Addressing media in New Delhi on the  Government’s Seva, Sushasan, and Garib Kalyan focusing on Steel sector, Mr Scindia said that the country which was known as a net importer of steel till 2013-14, has now emerged as the net exporter of steel on the basis of steel production. He said, the country’s steel production capacity has also gone up from 109 million tonnes in 2013-14 to 160 million tonnes at present. He said, the government has also set a target to enhance the steel production capacity from 160 million tonnes to 300 million tonnes by 2030.
