According to the annual execution report, 130 people were executed in different provinces of Iran in the past year.

The executions mostly comprised people belonging to the province of Sistan-Balochistan including East and West Azerbaijan and Kurdistan,

The report claimed that 30% of the prisoners executed in the country were from the Baloch ethnicity, which constitutes only 2% of Iran’s total population.

According to the report, Kurdistan and Sistan and Baluchistan regions are considered the most important centres of the “Women, Life, Freedom” protests. Evidence suggests that the highest number of arrests, beatings and killings of protesters were also reported in these regions.

A meagre 2% of Irans’s population is based in Sistan and Baluchistan region, but the executions carried out in this region are proportionally higher, which makes it an alarming issue.

International human rights organizations have protested and expressed grave concerns over the executions and human rights violations in Sistan and Balochistan, and other parts of Iran. Human rights groups have called on Iranian authorities to give the detainees the opportunity to explain themselves and the right to a fair trial.
