The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has announced the approval of a project to lay 488 kilometers of fiber optic cable across Afghanistan.
Enayatullah Alokozay, the spokesperson for the ministry, stated that the operations to extend and connect the fiber optic network have started in some provinces and are ongoing in others.
“Over the past three years, more than 1,800 kilometers of fiber optic network have been expanded in Afghanistan. Now, an additional 488 kilometers of a new project has been approved, which will cover various provinces,” he said.
Some economic experts emphasize the importance of regional cooperation, particularly with Central Asian countries, to connect Afghanistan to fiber optic networks.
“Investment by Central Asian countries and India in this infrastructure project will have significant positive effects on Afghanistan’s economic development,” said Abdul Naseer Rashtia, an economic affairs expert.
“Attracting more investments in the field of fiber optic internet and telecommunications can extensively address Afghanistan’s infrastructure needs. Such investments are essential,” said Firdos Behguzeen, an economic expert.
Previously, the acting Minister of Communications and Information Technology, during his trip to China, called on international organizations to cooperate with Afghanistan in the development of fiber optic networks.
