The Consulate of the Islamic Emirate in Karachi states that 44 Afghan migrants, including 21 students, have been released from prisons in Sindh Province, Pakistan.
Abdul Jabbar Takhari, the Consul General of the Islamic Emirate in Karachi, Pakistan, added that these detainees were arrested due to a lack of residence documents.
Takhari said: “Including 21 Afghan students, 44 detainees were released from various prisons in Karachi and sent back to the country via the Torkham route.”
The Consul General of the Islamic Emirate in Karachi also called on Pakistan not to harass or imprison Afghan illegal migrants.
Abdul Jabbar Takhari added: “We ask the Pakistani government not to imprison illegal migrants and to return them to Afghanistan after arresting them.”
Some Afghan migrants who are currently imprisoned in Pakistan say they are in poor conditions and urged that efforts be made for their release from prison.
Nasir, an Afghan prisoner in Pakistan, said: “I have been in prison for six months, and we are in poor conditions; we must be released from the prisons in Pakistan as soon as possible.”
According to the Consul General of the Islamic Emirate in Karachi, Pakistan, about 20 other prisoners are still detained in Sindh Province prisons.
The consulate says they are making efforts to free these Afghan prisoners from the prisons in Pakistan.
