Local authorities in Herat have announced that 170 individuals have completed their rehabilitation at the province’s 4,000-bed addiction treatment hospital and have been reunited with their families.
These individuals, who were taken off the streets of Herat city, underwent over a year of comprehensive treatment and support.
Hayatullah Rohani, Director of Counter-Narcotics at Herat Police Headquarters, stated: “For those leaving here, we tell them to return in the future so we can connect them with jobs and social activities. The number of addicts is no longer like it was before because now they receive complete treatment here, and those rehabilitated are handed over to their families.”
The rehabilitated individuals expressed their determination to never return to drugs and to rebuild their lives within their families and communities.
Abdul Ghafar, one of the rehabilitated patients, shared: “We were tired of this habit. Drugs have destroyed many families. I do not want to relapse because my family has suffered greatly.”
Over the past two years, local officials in Herat have reported treating more than 12,000 addicts in the province.
Hedayatullah Mashal, a doctor at the Herat addiction treatment hospital, noted: “The cases have decreased. Some severe cases have been referred to the regional hospital, and others to Gozara Hospital. Overall, the treatment process has been quite effective.”
According to Herat’s Counter-Narcotics Directorate, over 4,000 addicts are currently undergoing treatment at the facility. These individuals, hailing from various provinces, were collected from the streets of Herat city.
